The CRPA is intended for individuals who have lived experience with substance used disorder (SUD) personally, or within their family and want to provide support to those currently living with SUD.
You should consider pursuing the CRPA if your experience includes the following:
· Participation in the SUD treatment process or an alternative SUD recovery process;
· accessing community services/supports to initiate and maintain your own or a family member’s recovery from SUD; and
· assisting others in obtaining supports and services for SUD rehabilitation
In order to become a CRPA in New York State, you must:
· meet specific competency and ethical conduct requirements;
· meet specific work experience requirements;
· meet minimum education and training requirements; and
· pass the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) Examination for Peer Recovery.
